The size I mentioned 1.5 -2 ft is very approximate, as I could recall my memory after a lapse of 53 yrs, that is why put "may be" there. Anyway that is not the issue. The Replica that was at Colombo Museum had a description that the original of that is at the British Museum. Do they make a replica less than the Original Size ?.
One I mentioned was not displayed on Floor, but it was at a elevated Level in a recess on a wall as Icould remember, and given a prominent place as an exhibit. Whether that was at Indian Section or not I cant recall now. As the catalogue was done in 1975, Perhaps by then this item would have been taken out of display.
Sometimes, the first day cover leaflet issued for that stamp would give some light to my submission if you think its worth digging.
Tilakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01787524780851657803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8238633507629546395.post-19666463397196604412020-03-02T08:25:22.666+05:302020-03-02T08:25:22.666+05:30What you have told with regards the replica in Col...What you have told with regards the replica in Colombo Museum and the stamp are correct as per my knowledge too. As I can remember Colombo Museum replica is much smaller and less than 5ft as you mentioned. There are other Tara images in both Colombo And British museums but non of them bigger as this one and all are less than 1 ft. I have not seen 1.5-2 ft height Tara images in the British Museum at least in there exhibition area of the Indian section where our near 5 ft Tara image is. Also as I can remember such a Tara image is not mentioned in references given below

de.Silva P.H.D.H., 1975 A Catalogue of Antiquities And Other Cultural Objects From Sri Lanka (Ceylon) Abroad.
Mudiyansea N., 1967 Mahayana Monuments in CeylonBushanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08651243628428312352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8238633507629546395.post-1200441891444657442020-03-02T06:46:10.227+05:302020-03-02T06:46:10.227+05:30Dear Bushana

I think a replica of that is exhibited in Colombo Museum with a description that the original is at British Museum. (I think this image is depicted in a Sri Lankan Postage Stamp too.)

I do not know whether I am representing here a wrong information, or whether there is another Tara Image from Sri Lanka at British Museum ?
Please elucidate
